It does welcome those from outside Explorers and from other Groups who have an interest in joining in the core activities at the Unit. The core activities includekayaking and in the summer a great deal of use is made of the Group archery facility. Additionally, many of the Explorers have trained in Pioneering through Scouts and they support the Group in Pioneering. Canal Boating is also popular with the Unit. TheDanger Devils Fire Display Team is a development of a Circus Skills course run at the Unit.  The Unit has also being instrumental in establishing a light and sound facility to support stage shows and displays. This brought about the locally famous West Fest and more recently a 1950's Record Hop , to be followed with a 1960's Disco and other events.
