Canal Boating

We do not have our own canal boat but we can access Wakefield District's Jubilee Venture which is moored at Wakefield on the River Calder. We have four qualified helmsmen with authorisation and hope to train more to make this activity more accessible.

We have used the boat to explore the local canals and have taken it as far as the outskirts of Leeds on the Aire, and to Salterhebble on the Calder and Hebble Canal.

Canal Boating is relaxing whilst motoring, but is interspersed with bursts of activity. Using the boat gives us an opportunity to introduce people to the water, the canals, wildlife and our local heritage. We try and allow everyone to take a turn at the helm and hopefully most enjoy the experience.
