Clayton West Scout Group caters for the young people of the Upper Dearne Valley, from Clayton West, Scissett, Kitchenroyd, Denby Dale, Upper Denby, and Upper and Lower Cumberworth. When we have space we can sometimes accommodate members from Skelmanthorpe or Emley, but the Upper Dearne Valley vllages take priority.
The Group consists of Beavers 5.5 years to 8 years, Cubs 8 years to 10.5 years, Scouts, 10 years to 14.5 years. There is also an attached Explorer Unit for 14-18 year olds.
The ethos of the Group is to operate as a family. We encourage joint events between sections, and try to have two or three whole Group events throughout the year, including a Gala in the summer and one of the longest standing bonfire parties in the valley in November.
Adults have as much fun here as the youngsters, and Leaders and helpers are encouraged to take part in activities as Leaders and Instructors, we do not expect people to stand on the sidelines. Additionally, we have social events for adults from time to time, and have been known to run trips to the Christmas markets in Germany for our adult members.
